“Puck Lakes” Donald Tedrow
I backpacked into Puck Lakes with the intent of imaging the Milky Way and capturing time lapses of it during the night. I’m always looking for photography opportunities including wildlife, plants and natural occurrences.
I am passionately fascinated with space and all natural phenomena, and I’m equally fascinated with photography and back packing. I push myself on the trail and find ways to push my photography skills. The cathartic end is a composite of hiking the wilderness, photographing it, processing the photograph into an image that represents my vision. This allows friends, family and anyone that is interested, to enter a place that they may not have otherwise been able to experience. Visit my web site at: dondelayjonesphotography.com

“Hatley Castle” Dale George
This image was taken after sunset in Victoria, Vancouver Island. I had taken this photo earlier in the day but the lighting was awful, so I made it a point to come back in the evening to try again and perhaps get a better result. Arrived with just about 5 minutes of good light left so I quickly set up the tripod and snapped of about 4-5 sets of 5 exposures.
This is another HDR image using only 3 of 5 exposures. Exposures were blended in Photomatix and then adjustments made in Lightroom 5. A small amount of exposure increase in portions of the castle stonework were made in onOne 7.0 as well.
Some of the image particulars….shot with Canon 5DMK3, Canon 24-70mm lens. Average exposure time was 1/5 second at f/9 and ISO 100.
This image and a couple others is now why I always travel with my laptop. Had I not had the option of editing my earlier series of shots taken here earlier in the day, I probably would not have gotten this shot. It was only after editing my earlier effort that I realized it just was not going to work. Thank heavens for second chances!!

“911” was taken at the 911 museum in New York City. I took the photo of the beam from a railing, one floor above. I used my Nikon D810, with a 24 to 70mm lens, set at 33mm. The settings were, ISO 4000, F/4.0, at 1/40sec. Photoshop was used to remove projected images from the rear wall, and darken areas around the beam.

“Freedom” Linda Noles
This photo was taken recently at my home. I was inspired by the Clubs assignment of Patriotic/Love of Country. I think the basics of Patriotism lie in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. The book is about this and the gun symbolizes the second amendment and Freedom. I took this with a Canon Rebel T6i with a Tamron 18-270mm lens. The camera settings were 1/20s at F/4.5, ISO 200.

“Jet Precision” is a capture of the Breitling Jet Team’s photo pass at the 2015 Reno Air Races. The Cloudless blue sky made for a ho-hum background on the shot. I used a “desaturate blues” command in Photoshop to give the subject more impact. The shot was taken with my Canon 5d MKII, using a 300mm lens and 1.4x extension (total 420mm focal length) – ISO 500, 1250th of a second, at f 5.6.

“Hanging Man” Nomeca Hartwell
This anomalous bleak object high on a blank building wall opposite Leon, Nicaragua’s giant Revolutionary Mural caught my eye. I had to use full lens extension on my portable Canon G1x ( 112mm) and even then ended up cropping to 1/10. I deleted 2 other thin diagonal wires that crossed the sculpture in CS6 and finished with a frame effect from Perfect Effects that seemed to compliment the subject matter. Since there wasn’t any writing or label, I don’t know exactly who or what the object referenced. 1/640 at f/5.8, ISO 100.

Through many years of film and into the digital age I was my wife’s Sherpa. I carried a 40 pound back pack full of her camera gear up hills, down in to valleys, for what seemed like miles and miles. Then after we got to that ideal spot I had to hang out (most of the time very quietly) for hours. One day I picked up here spare camera and started taking photos. Today we each carry our own backpack We live near Cave Junction where I am one of the volunteer Photographers for the IV Fire Department. One beautiful summer day the IVFD was having a volunteer appreciation Bar B Que when the alarm came in for the Krauss Lane Grass fire. This allowed me to respond with the department. The high winds and dry conditions that day caused the fire to quickly grow. Because of the excellent mutual aid agreements in place for SW OR, firemen from many different departments covering the entire area quicklystarted showing up. This photo is of one of them that came to help. As a home owner I would like to thank all of them.

“Lady Beetle” Greg Smith
“Lady Beetle” is a shot a I took on Beacon Hill to the Northeast of town. This was my first serious photographic outing using my new 100mm macro lens. I discovered just how tricky macro photography can be; with a fixed focal length, the subject matter just inches from the front of my lens, and a very shallow depth of field. I ended up doing a lot of waiting and chasing my subject around at ground level to get the shot I wanted. The settings on my Canon 5D Mark II were:
100mm focal length, 1000 ISO, f13, at 1/13th of a second.

“Bzzz” Patty Booth
I took this in my back yard using a Nikon D3 with a 105mm macro lens. Macro photography is all about patience and camera stability. I go out in the late afternoon and find a spot that will give me a good background like a flower bed …………then I set the camera up on a good tripod, grab a lawn chair, an umbrella, a glass of gewürztraminer, and wait. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon.

“Venetian Waterfalls” Dale George
On a recent trip to Las Vegas we spent 3 fabulous nights at The Venetian/Palazzo Resort. The opulent, over-the-top interior design of the Venetian make it a photographers play land….if you are willing to outwit the crowds. I really wanted this scene with no one in it, but to achieve this I had to get up at 5:30 and head downstairs for my chance. Patience way key here, as cleaning crews were busy doing their jobs and milling around this fountain. As soon as it was clear, I clicked off 3 exposures and considered myself fortunate as the crews had returned to squeegee out the loose change in the reflecting pool. No matter, I had gotten the shot. 3 images combined in Photomatix to give it this look.

“White and Black Kiss” Gene Rimmer
My initiation into photography was in taking four photographic art classes at Arizona State University. After a career in hospice but years of doing little with his photography, I finally entered into the world of digital photography with a point-and-shoot in 2006 and progressed to using professional level Canon camera equipment and doing my own printing and mounting. The Caveman Camera Club gave me the opportunity to interact and grow artistically with other serious amateur and professional photographers. My work can be seen on Facebook and especially on my website: www.GeneRimmerPhotography.com .
For this image of the young women, I had originally intended to get a soft shot of two women softly kissing. I asked Ona, the girl on the left who had modeled for me befoe, to locate a friend who would shoot with us. When she came with Tara, a darker skinned woman, I shot a number of images but felt doing them in black and white was more than appropriate. I chose this shot because of the interesting space between them and their overall look, and I processed it with a gradient on the background for added emphasis.

This shot was taken near Prairie Creek in Northern California with a Canon 5D III and a 70-200mm. I was with a few fellow photographers spending the day wondering around the Redwoods and we decided to stop at this campground before heading back home. There had been a few elk here in the past and we hoped that we might spot them and get some shots.
Once we arrived we discovered quite a crowd watching this bull and a small group of cows. He wondered around a bit giving us plenty of opportunities and angles to shoot from but quickly became agitated with various other onlookers trying to see how close they could get. After he grew tired of the paparazzi he followed the cows across the highway where he then took his frustrations out on an individual in a car that tried to get too close to him and his girls.

The wife and I took a trip to France in the fall of 2013. On of the places we visited was the Palace at Versailles. This too is a photographers paradise with its lavish and over the top interior. We had finished our tour of the inside just before closing time and everyone was hurrying to catch their trains to Paris. This shot is just is not possible any other time of the day as the hordes of tourists are always in the courtyard by the hundreds. I wasted no time as any second someone could exit, so I quickly set myself and clicked off a couple shots. Originally this was color, but converted to monochrome. Some careful editing out of scaffolding near the roofline was done, as well as adding some clouds to give the sky some interest. For me, it was all about capturing this fabulous tile work and its geometric patterns against the backdrop of the beautiful palace.

It took me 10 years to finally try and photograph this covered bridge in Sunny Valley. I was returning from an outing with friends and remembered that I had always wanted to try and capture this photo and as luck would have it, the sun was going down. This bridge is difficult to find a good angle for a classic look as there are a lot of obstructions around it. I set my camera to take multiple exposures to try and capture a wider range of light. I combined the 3 images to make this HDR photo. The overall look of this image was achieved using a Painterly preset in Photomatix and then further processed in Lightroom. 1/200th sec exposure, focal length 16mm, ISO 100, aperture f/8.0 Photo taken with a Canon T2I and Canon 10-22m lens.
