Congratulations! Dale on a beautiful image. Dale’s image will be printed in the Daily Courier. Below find out a little about Dale and this amazing shot.

I joined the Caveman Camera Club in 2013 to be around other like-minded photographers and to broaden my skills.  Always looking for new challenges, I decided to try my hand at high magnification macro photography.  I needed an interesting subject, and flies being particularly plentiful, it seemed like a good subject.

This image is 43 images stacked one on top of another. Extreme magnification images have a shallow depth of focus, so multiple photos are taken to bring the whole image into focus, exposing all the disgusting details of the fly.  This image is taken at 5x magnification and no cropping.  I used a Canon 5D Mk IV camera and Canon MP-E65 macro lens.

This was set up and photographed on my dining room table, and took about 3 hours from start to finish to render this final image.  Not an easy process, but for a photographer…well worth the effort for a good image.

Clearwaters   by Ross Steensland

I was scouting Stump Lake for the next morning’s photoshoot. After admiring a smoky orange sunset, I happened across Clearwater River.  The gentle water progressively edged by vibrant grass and wildflowers, resting under an old mountain forest captivated my imagination. Armed with my canon 6D MkII, Tamron 28-75mm f2.8, B&W Polarizer filter, and a sturdy tripod, I decided a long exposure in the waning light could capture the brilliant colors along with silky smooth water I was enjoying.  Exposure settings: 28mm, F11, ISO 50, 30 second exposure, edited in Adobe Lightroom.

Congratulations! Ross. We’ll be looking for your shot in the Daily Courier.
